In August of 2010, the Lord favored us with a Minister of Worship in the person of Mr. DeVona Jaworski Boyd, affectionately known as D.J. He is a native of Whitmire, South Carolina. As God called him at an early into the ministry of music, he acclaims all of his success and praises to God. He started playing piano at the age of five. Later taking lessons and being involved in the school marching and symphonic band programs. While in high school, he was an active member of several clubs and organizations including the National Honors Society, Beta Club, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Yearbook and Newspaper Editor, and President of the Student Body while also being the Drum Major for three consecutive years. He is a 1998 honor graduate of Whitmire High School.
In the fall of 1998, D.J. started attending Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina to pursue a degree in Music. While at Winthrop, He was involved in various musical functions including a member of the Glee Club, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, the Winthrop Chorale and the Winthrop University Gospel Choir. His passion for the piano also opened other opportunities while at school such as being appointed as the resident pianist where he played for major functions supported by the school including the personal pianist to the President of University. He is a 2003 graduate of Winthrop University with a Bachelors of Arts in Music with a minor in Music.
After college, D.J. served as the Assistant Director of Music and Arts at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte,
NC for 7 years. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM). He is an avid supporter of the Calvin Institute of Worship (www.calvin.edu/worship), The Hampton Minister's Conference and Organist Guild, and The Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) and a former member of the board of directors for the Charlotte Children's Choir (www.charlottechildrenschoir.org)
He also has a love and passion for Art and Design. Owner and operator of his own Interior Decorating business DeJaBo Designs (http://www.dejabodesigns.com/ )
Here at St. Luke some of his responsibilities as the Minister of Worship is to prepare a variety of ministries for weekly worship services, choral rehearsal, musician's director, media ministry, children and youth music, step teams, mime and dance ministries. We are grateful for all that Bro. Boyd brings to the life of St. Luke.
